Yvethe Santiago Aims for a Back to Back Win in Miss Supranational 2014 in Poland!
Brave, fierce and determined, 21 year old Bicolana Yvethe Santiago is confident to repeat the Miss Supranational victory of Johanna Datul in 2013 and bring home a second crown for the Philippines.
She will be battling out more than 80 of the world’s loveliest women in the pageant’s 2014 staging happening on December 5, at the Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji (MOSIR), Krynica-Zdrój, in the south of Poland.
Yvethe acknowledges the challenge but keeps headstrong. “I know I’m facing tough competition. A back-to-back victory is very hard but not impossible. My passion to bring home the crown will fire me up for the fight, and I’m excited to see what it will empower to do come pageant time.”
She is all the more driven by her inspiration—her family and her Filipino supporters. “My family has sacrificed so much, going back and forth from Manila to Bicol to check on me and so I want to win and make them proud. I also want to bring home the crown to Filipino who have given all their love and support.”
Yvethe shares her secret weapon is no less than the reigning Miss Supranational herself. Like sisters, Yvethe and Johanna have been in constant communication and have been doing training, exchanging tips and advice on the Miss Supranational pageant.
“Every chance we have together, we talk about what I can do to shine at the pageant, and Johanna is very open to share everything. She always told me to just enjoy the moment, never get tired of smiling. Be lavish in your praises for the people at the pageant, but do it out of sincerity,” She adds.
Responding to comparisons made between her and Johanna however, Yvethe graciously asserts her individuality. “Johanna and I are both very warm, sociable and we both easily adapt to different scenarios. Everyone has different personalities though, and I guess what sets us apart is that I am a more technical and a bit OC. I study up and read about global issues and current events so I am prepared to relate with different personalities.”
Yvethe is well poised to achieve the Miss Supranational two-peat. She is a head turner, standing at 5’8 and 1/2 and is blessed with delicate doll-like facial features. Years of modeling and pageant experience, coupled with months of rigorous pasarela training have honed her walk and stage presence. She also took part in various trainings for personality development, Q&A, social graces, hair and makeup and language lessons on the lead up to the pageant.
The 2014 Miss Supranational is the pageant’s sixth staging. Founded in 2009 in Poland by the World Beauty Association, it aims to “unite our world with beauty.” Previous winners were Oksana Moria of Ukraine (2009), Karina Pinilla of Panama (2010), Monica Leczuk of Poland (2011), Katsiaryna Buraya of Belarus (2012) and Johanna Datul (2013). Johanna was the first Filipino and the first Asian to ever bring home the Miss Supranational crown, and should Yvethe win, the Philippines will lead with the most titles in the pageant.
