Miss World 2012 Wenxia Yu Visits Manila!

Apart from her queenly duty to promote goodwill on her world tour, Miss World 2012 Wenxia Yu (Miss China) will visit the Philippines to celebrate Chinese New Year.  There is a dual significance to her visit – Miss World was born in the Year of the Snake and will welcome the Year of the Water Snake with the rest of the Filipino people.

For the second time in the history of Miss World in the Philippines, a reigning Miss World will have an up-close-and-personal encounter with her fans.  The very first Miss World to mingle with the Filipino public was Alexandria Mills in 2011.

Miss Yu is scheduled to visit SM Mall of Asia (MOA) on Sunday, February 10 to meet and greet Filipino fans of the biggest and longest-existing beauty pageant in the world.   She will make a special appearance together with the reigning Miss World Philippines 2012 Queneerich Rehman at the MOA Music Hall at 2:30 in the afternoon. The tall and radiant beauty queen from China will be interviewed live on stage, pose for photographs and sign autographs for fans and pageant followers.

Born on the year of the snake, the 23-year old Wenxia’s first love was music. She plays the piano and loves entertaining guests by singing mostly Chinese folk songs since she was a child. She first took formal singing classes at the age of 8, and then went on to finish a university degree in Chinese Folk Music at Harbin University.

Ms. Yu was born from humble beginnings and grew up living a simple life. She and her older sister were raised by farming parents who struggled to give their children a good education. This imbued her with the passion to help others uplift their own lives. And this very same passion became her personal goal when her dream came true to win the 2012 Miss World crown in a glittering pageant held in Dongsheng, Inner Mongolia, China last August 18, 2012.

While fulfilling her duties as a Miss World Ambassador, she takes inspiration from China’s first Miss World 2007 winner, Zhang Zilin. Ms. Yu would also like to leave her own personal mark as an emissary of goodwill and hope to people around the globe.

Along with Miss World CEO Julia Morley and Steven Douglas, Ms. Yu looks forward to experiencing the renowned Filipino hospitality and rich Philippine culture. Aside from her stop at the SM MOA, she will also do an Old Manila Castillian tour, wreath-laying at the Rizal monument with Mayor Alfredo Lim, officially grace the Chinese Art Exhibit at the Manila Hotel, witness the famed Manila Bay sunset. The highlight of her visit emphasizes the very heart of Miss World’s Beauty with a Purpose – a tour of the Philippine General Hospital where she will be reunited with Sunshine Sison – a young heart patient and the first beneficiary of the Miss World Organization charity arm. Ms. Yu’s visit to Manila has been arranged by Miss World Philippines license holder Cory Quirino. It has been noted that with great pride Miss World Philippines since 2011 has made a strong presence in the Miss World Pageant with Ms. Gwendoline Ruais placing 1st Runner-up in 2011 and Ms. Queneerich Rehman placing in the Top 12 in 2012.
